
Glenn Wheeler – host
Glenn Wheeler comes from the Mi’kmaq community of York Harbour in the Bay of Islands (Elmastukwek) on the West Coast of Newfoundland. He’s a lawyer and journalist, and an alumnus of St. James School (Lark Harbour), the University of King’s College School of Journalism and the University of Toronto Law School, where he was a Senior Fellow in Indigenous Law from 2012-14.
Allison Baker – producer
Allison Baker is the head of research at The Walrus magazine and the co-creator of the Truth in Journalism Project, a journalist-led initiative focused on the nature and methodology of fact-based journalism. A settler and uninvited guest residing in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal) on the unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka, she has produced Mi’kmaq Matters since 2016.


Greg Janes – correspondent
Greg Janes is a former Chief of Burgeo First Nation. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces and with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Later, he served with the Royal Canadian Navy on various ships.
After losing his status in the Qalipu Band, Greg led the fight for both actively serving and retired members of the RCMP and military personnel to be reinstated to the Qalipu First Nation.
Greg now resides in Corner Brook with his family and volunteers with the Royal Canadian Legion and the Lions Club. He sits on the committee for the Elmastukwek Mawio’mi.
When he’s not volunteering, Greg likes carving antlers.
Hillary MacInnis – researcher
Hillary MacInnis is a recent graduate of the Master of Journalism program at the University of King’s College. Currently residing in Kjiputkuk (Halifax), she has ties to the Mi’kmaq community of St. Fintan’s in southwestern Newfoundland.
